There is some yarn left after knitted my ma's cardigan. She asks me to knit a hat for her as pictured. This is a free pattern given along my purchased shawls and scarves book at Nov 2005. I usually crochet the hat for this is much easier and this is my first time to knit a hat. This is a good chance for me to practice my skill.
I have a wish in my mind, that is to knit a lace shawls with lace weight yarn. I always worry that it is hard for me and cannot finish it. When I read through some lace shawls patterns, some require high level of knitting experience. Still work hard to search some simpler and easier one.

The cardigan for your mother is beautiful! I love the color,
You may want to try the Flower Basket Shawl. I'm going to knit this for the knitting olympics. The pattern is here:

From the looks of it, the pattern does not seem to be too complicated. Basically, lace is simply a combination of knit stitches, purl stitches, yo's, ktog's and psso's. I know it can be intimidating at first, but just remember that all you are doing is varying combinations of the stitches I mentioned above.
Good luck & let me know what shawl you decide upon.
